Raising the bar in the Twentieth Judicial Circuit

The Twentieth Judicial Circuit Court

Thank you for visiting to learn more about how we can work together for a better and more fair and transparent Twentieth Judicial Circuit Court.  The Twentieth Judicial Circuit includes the counties of Monroe, Perry, Randolph, St. Clair and Washington.  Voters will decide three of the circuit court judges who will be serving these counties in the upcoming 2018 election.

For a snapshot of who I am and why I hope to earn your vote, please click here.

To view an at-a-glance view of my background, experience, judicial philosophy, and more, please see my BND Candidate Profile found here.

KEEP IN MIND when casting your vote, my opponent is a sitting Associate Judge who is running for Circuit Judge, and will remain on the bench and continue to preside over cases REGARDLESS of whether he wins or loses this election.

If my opponent is elected, he and the other Circuit Judges will select his replacement Associate Judge, who will NOT be selected by or accountable to voters.  If I'm elected, I'll serve alongside my opponent, and work diligently every day to keep our Court fair and just for everyone, regardless of personal relationships and political affiliation.

Our Court needs to rebuild the public trust and be more fair and independent.  I respectfully ask for your vote.

Your vote matters

Did you know that some experts state that nearly twenty-five percent of voters don't vote for any judicial candidate and that out of those that do, nearly eighty percent who do vote, know little about the judicial candidates?

All of the judicial candidates in this race  meet the requisite legal qualifications to be elected as judge, as they are all certified  to be placed on the ballot.  However, here in Southern Illinois there is public perception of an Ivory Tower that cannot be breached by anyone who isn't a member of the "good old boys' club".    The judiciary should not be a haven for only those who have existing or previous business, employment, and personal relationships with the judiciary.   It should be a venue where independence and impartiality abounds,  and consideration of personal relationships and political affiliation is strictly forbidden.

Now that all candidates have been certified for the ballot, get ready.... the underhanded, misleading and sometimes even bullying and name calling will begin.  Baseless and false allegations intended to distract us and mislead us will be made.

My campaign has already been victim of such shameless attacks.  Despite such foul play I will continue working to restore public confidence and preserve the integrity of our judiciary.

It's critical that all voters take the time to review the judicial candidates to ensure that they are making an informed choice. Please be sure to do so, and reach out to any candidate with your questions or concerns.  Any candidate worthy of your vote should be open and honest with you and candidly address any questions or concerns that you may have.

Join me in working to safeguard Equal Treatment and Justice for All and Working For a More Fair and Independent Judiciary

Our courts are important as they protect our constitutional rights and allow us to resolve our disputes in a fair and equitable manner.   It's imperative that the judges who serve us are fair and impartial.

I am running to serve as our circuit judge as our court has had many recent challenges.  It's important we work together to protect the integrity and fairness in our courts and restore public confidence.

The people of Southern Illinois deserve an independent judiciary which promotes public confidence and that which is fair, impartial, and devoted to justice for all. As a judge in the Twentieth Judicial Circuit, I will be that judge who is wholly fair and impartial, will decide cases after careful and thorough consideration and analysis of the facts and the law, and will act with the integrity, fairness and humanity that the people of Southern Illinois expect and are deserving of.

Please learn more about me on by reading the announcement of my candidacy for circuit judge.  Or for an at-a-glance review of my background and experience, click here.  Please feel free to contact me also by phone, email or Facebook with any questions or concerns that you may have.

We all have a duty to serve one another and I look forward to serving you and your family.  If elected, I pledge that I will work diligently each and every day to safeguard equal treatment under the law, and justice for all who appear in the Twentieth Circuit.

Most respectfully,

Katherine Ruocco
